COCONUT VS SOY: Evidence and transparency
At Vulgaire, we chose to use coconut and apricot wax out of conviction and here is why.
Coconut wax is made from the oil extracted from processed coconuts. We harvest the coconut water and the flesh which will be used as ground food. The bark is used to make charcoal, bowls, decorations or ground and used in potting mixes. There is no loss. Its production does not use pesticides and does not require deforestation or large resources. It is sustainable, natural, organic and biodegradable. Apricot wax, also from sustainable and organic cultivation, is made from oil extracted from cold-pressed apricot kernels, which prevents them from being rejected. Finally, these waxes are vegan and are 80% cleaner when burning than soy wax and 95% cleaner than the paraffin used by major brands.
Why not soy wax?
Soy wax is made from genetically modified soybeans. Soybeans are a harmful crop that is completely unsustainable. It is the second most polluting crop, using considerable energy and significant resources, including an immense quantity of water, in addition to creating a lot of discharge of pesticides, herbicides and insecticides into waterways including lakes, rivers, estuaries and groundwater. It is a culture that causes deforestation and the destruction of biodiversity. Although we can say that it is a “natural” wax, the reflection does not stop there. That's why!
